As a Gratitude for the 8th Anniversary, Semen Gresik Distributes Basic Food Assistance to 14 Districts in Rembang

Rembang, January 26, 2022- PT Semen Gresik (PTSG), through the Zakat Management Unit (UPZ), distributed zakat consisting of 574 basic food parcels for the underprivileged and fisabilillah (those who are struggling in the path of God) groups in 14 subdistricts in Rembang District, last Thursday - Friday (20-21/1).

Hundreds of zakat parcels in the social service event were distributed directly by the PTSG CSR team in the subdistrict, implementing strict health protocols. The zakat receivers (mustahiq) included the underprivileged and fisabilillah people becoming teachers in the Quran Educational Institution (TPQ). The basic food consisted of rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, and soy sauce.

Previously, PTSG UPZ also provided basic food and corn seeds during its social service for Sedulur Sikep Samin in Klopoduwur Village, Banjarejo Subdistrict, Blora Regency.

The Head of the Communication and CSR Unit of Semen Gresik, Sunyata, explained that the distribution of zakat was a form of trust from employees and gratitude in the momentum of Semen Gresik's 8th anniversary celebration. In addition, it was the company's commitment to implementing social responsibility.

"We have tremendous support from management. The Board of Directors expects that UPZ can provide scholarships for elementary school, junior high school, senior high school, and university students from underprivileged families in the future. This program is also in line with the instruction of the Ministry of SOEs,'' Sunyata said in a press release on Wednesday (26/1).

Sunyata continued, his party had deployed specific teams to distribute zakat in four subdistricts, i.e., Gunem, Bulu, Sulang, and Pamotan. Meanwhile, the distribution in 10 other subdistricts was assisted by subdistrict officials.

In addition, he added, UPZ also involved the Muhammadiyah Amil Zakat, Infaq, and Shodaqah Institutions (LAZISMU), NU Rembang, and NU Lasem in the distribution of zakat.

He said that, by distributing basic food, it is expected that the burden on the vulnerable impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic would be alleviated. Furthermore, it was envisaged that the increase in muzakki (zakat donors) at PTSG UPZ would benefit the community and provide blessings to corporations and stakeholders.

Dharma added that the enthusiasm of the zakat receivers was incredible. They regarded zakat from employees as a form of companionship that could extend the life and bring blessed sustenance.

The Gunem subdistrict head, Kastari, appreciated and expressed his gratitude for the distribution of zakat from Semen Gresik. "This program is great and noble. We are extremely grateful that they helped us even before we asked them for help. Hopefully, this will bring blessed sustenance,'' he said.
